Style Inspiration: Chloé

Four high-street looks inspired by Chloé

and how to get the Chloé look

Chloé is the perfect inspiration for summer style… When I think of the French fashion house, I think of lazy summer picnics in fields, basking in golden rays. I think of floaty seventies dresses with big sleeves and Chloé’s SS17 runway collection was confirmation of this… The Chloé bracelet Nile bag is this season’s ‘it’ piece; thankfully the high-street have given us some great (less expensive) alternatives to follow the trend. Good luck getting the real deal if you’re after this bag, ‘cos it’s always sold out! (Last time I checked there’s just one available on Farfetch here!) Mango has some great pieces in at the moment which look more high-end than high-street, like their Nile inspired bag. Just compare them – they’re not identical but it has the same effect:

Clare Waight-Keller (Creative Director of Chloé at the time – now at Givenchy) said that she wanted Chloé ‘to feel French again‘.

There’s always been that bohemia about Chloé which is so linked to festival culture, the idea of being a free spirit. –Clare Waight-Keller

So, we already know it’s about being free, floaty and French… alors, just follow these tips and imagine you’re popping out to the boulangerie for some fresh pain-au-chocolat, et voilàand you’ve nailed the look!

  1. Colours

The palette was kept fresh, simple and elegant, with just a pop of bright colour. Hues of white, pink, nude, cream and navy dominated the collection, with a few dashes of red and yellow, for a classic French feel. Oh, and throw in some Breton stripes in there too. Hannah wearing nude coloured culottes with slit in the side with a striped navy knitted jumper with over-sized flared sleevesHannah Gladwin wearing Asos nude culottes with side splits, with barely there white heeled sandals, with an over-sized navy knitted jumper with large sleeves, holding a cream Mango bag by its gold ring.

  2. Silhouette

Think back to the romantic loose-fitting dresses of the seventies. Tailoring was over-sized, the shirts and blouses featuring volumes of cotton fabric and fluted sleeves draping over high-waisted flared culottes and palazzo pants. But, keep everything short: make sure skirts and trousers lift off the floor and aren’t too long. Think of a French sailor. Ahoy!

  3. Texture

Dresses are pleated with with lots of voluminous tiered chiffon and trimmed in lace, whilst the shirting featured delicate pin-tuck pleats, whilst sleeves were adorned with big bows and cotton ties hanging loose.

  4. Simplicity

Keep accessories, makeup and hair pared back. The trick with this look is not to be too over-done. When we think of French fashionistas, simple and sleek comes to mind. I just put on some mascara and a dewey highlighter, mussed up my hair for some je ne sais quoi! The Nile bag with the plain gold hoop is the statement here and acts as your jewellery to bring everything together. You want to look like ‘I just threw this on before I walked out the door, but it looks put-together and stylish AF‘.

  5. The bag and shoes

Along the same lines as the last point… The bag and shoes should make a statement, but remain simple. A sleek barely-there sandal was what the shoes were all about on the Chloé runway. This bag from Mango is the perfect dupe for the Nile bag and still has the same impact, in fact, ever since I bought this bag, I’ve seen it featured everywhere! #Trending!

“The heel hasn’t felt right for a while,” said Waight-Keller, confirming what so many women have always thought… “but it does feel right now.”  She said she had designed the high-waisted trousers that she included in the collection to taper in at the ankle enabling the new 8cm heeled sandal from the collection to be fully appreciated: “Because” she emphasised, “The [high] heel is so important.”

I love this bag. I wanted to buy Chloe one so much but man, It’s really expensive. Mango did a great job on this bag.
Maybe I should also buy from Mango.

I love that you showed the bag with different style.
